"On December 20, 2007, I underwent right total knee surgery. Two months and eight days later, I am walking without the horrible pain I was enduring prior to my surgery.
I am grateful for my orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Asp, and the surgical team who performed my surgery; and to all of my physical and occupational therapists who encouraged me during all of the exercises to get me back to my present status, as a functioning and healthy 72-year-old adult female."

"In 1999, I was 57 years old and desperately in need of relief from the arthritic pain in my knees. It had been 35 years since the original football injury which ended my Big Ten Football career and I now thought it was putting me on the sidelines for good. At 57, after three other corrective knee surgeries, I was only good for less than an hour of physical activity per day before I had to sit down, ice and rest my knees.
In my early 50’s I was able to jog daily, play racquet ball three times per week, play lots of tennis and ski each Winter. By the time I was 55 I began looking for a surgeon who could give me some relief but couldn’t find one willing to do replacement surgery. What was worse, most of the doctors turned me down because that I was too young. They said that I would only wear out the prosthesis too soon, so I needed to wait until I was older to have the surgery ! I didn’t want to wait !
Then in 1999, I met with Dr. Wyard and he surgically replaced both of my knees (one in May and the other in October) and by December of that year I was able to snow shoe. In January 2000, I was finally back on the tennis courts while on vacation in Florida. I even tried going back to down-hill skiing after the next winter, but figured that wasn’t too smart, so now I settle on cross country skiing and snow shoeing each winter.
Now it is February of 2008 (almost nine years since my original replacement surgery) and my original knee replacements are still going strong. I’ve just returned from Florida where I’ve been playing tennis (3 hrs/per day) since last October 2007. And, of course, with all the snow in Minnesota I’ve been out snow shoeing twice this week since I’ve been back.
If you are thinking about knee replacement surgery, don’t wait! Dr. Wyard is as good as they get. In fact, when people ask me if I’d do it all over again, all I can say is yes! I think about all the fun that I would have missed had I not. So, heck yes, it was a no brainer."

“My mother had an appointment today…I just wanted to say how wonderful the receptionist, the assistant John, and Dr. Riggi were. They had a wonderful demeanor and were very knowledgeable and pleasant. I also had my daughter with me and they were very kind and informative with her as well. It was really a wonderful doctor visit and we’ve been to many. I just want to say thank you! I think everybody there is doing a great job.” said Janice C. after she took her mother to an appointment with Dr. Kayvon Riggi.

Carole and Swede Bengtson, pictured with their current physician, Scott Anseth, M.D. and Stephanie, Care Coordinator. Carole states, "We became patients in the early 70's with Dr. Bruce Sundberg. Our daughter had a broken leg. From then until now we have always known that Orthopedic Medicine & Surgery was our 'home away from home.' In 1976 my husband had a serious accident. Dr. Sundberg and Dr. Peterson guided us through 3 years of an emotional rollercoaster and a strong friendship with both of them continues to this day. As a recommendation from Dr. Peterson, Dr. Scott Anseth has now taken over our orthopedic care and has made us feel like this is where we should be. We can name many staff members who make this office great, including Stephanie - We appreciate all you do for us at the office, plus you do everything with a smile."

Grace Kovalik, pictured with her physician, James M. Schaffhausen, M.D., had two total hip replacements done at TCO. "I just can't say enough about everyone there," she says. "From the time you enter their office they focus on your case and what you need to have happen. You're in very good hands. People who know I've had hip surgery say, 'I can't believe how well you do.' And I say, "That's the place to go! There's nothing I can't do. They've taken very good care of me and I've come through it wonderfully.'"

Tom Smrekar, pictured with his physician, Robert B. Hartman, M.D., is active in baseball and hockey. Tom has had two sports injuries corrected at TCO: an elbow reconstruction and a dislocated shoulder. "Every time I've gone there it's just been first class. The doctors and the staff are great to work with, Tom stated." When asked how the care he received was, Tom replied, "Excellent. They gave me options for treatment. They reviewed each scenario and the likely results and let me make the decision. I'm the type that likes to get it done and get back to normal right away. They gave me very aggressive options that did just that."
