Clare McCarthy, MD is an orthopedic hand surgeon at Twin Cities Orthopedics. On Jan. 10 she was the guest on The Gyno Show on FM107.1. 

Topics from her discussion and question and answer session include issues that young female athletes experience, such as balance and ACL injuries as well as common foot issues amongst women, including bunions, improper footwear, and running problems. In addition, she discusses how to treat various hand issues that both men and women experience, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, CMC arthritis, and metacarpal pain.

Dr. McCarthy was also featured in a story on WCCO on Dec. 25 talking about hand injuries occurring from snow blowers.

"We're seeing amputations and multiple fractures in fingers for people sticking their fingers in snow blowers trying to un-stick the snow," said Dr Clare McCarthy.

Dr. Clare McCarthy has amputated the tips of several people's fingers since Thursday. She said most were hurt while the machine was turned off.

"There is a recoil on the machine. So, even though you turn it off, sometimes it has one spin left once you get it unstuck," said Dr. McCarthy.
