David R. Anderson, MD  (Full Bio)
David Anderson completed his medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. His advanced training includes a sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. His special medical interests include athletic injuries and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, should and elbow, fracture management, and joint replacement surgery.

John T. Anderson, MD  (Full Bio)
John Anderson earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his orthopaedic residency at the same. Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, his special medical interests include joint reconstruction and replacement of the hip and knee. His sports medicine interests include focus on upper extremity conditions of the shoulder, elbow and wrist.

Dr. Anderson was named outstanding orthopedist by the Mpls. St. Paul magazine in 1995 and 1996. He was also named a top doctor by Mpls. St. Paul magazine in 2007 and 2008. He is widely published on the topic of shoulder injury.

Chris Coetzee, MD  (Full Bio)
Orthopaedic surgeon Christiaan Coetzee, M.D., earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1984 and completed his residency at the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. His advanced medical training includes completion of two Fellowships: an AO Trauma Fellowship in Davos, Switzerland, and a Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the University of Washington, in Seattle.

Dr. Coetzee sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute  in Edina, where he specializes in foot and ankle reconstruction. Additional responsibilities include appointments as associate editor of the Foot and Ankle International Journal and reviewer to the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.

Christie S. Heikes, MD  (Full Bio)
Dr. Heikes earned her medical degree and completed her residency at the University of Minnesota. Additionally, Dr. Heikes completed an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Minnesota Sports Medicine.

While at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Heikes competed in track and cross country. Her experience and continued activity level gives her a strong understanding of the unique challenges that athletes and active females of all ages face.

Dr. Heikes specializes in sports medicine, running injuries, knee arthoscopy, total knee replacement, women’s orthopedics and general orthopedics.

Christopher Larson, MD  (Full Bio) - Director of MSM Education
Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon Christopher Larson earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School-Twin Cities. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of North Carolina and an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center in Minneapolis, Minn. In those capacities, he provided medical coverage for the University of North Carolina Tarheels football and soccer programs and the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively. He was the orthopedist for the National U.S. versus Canada soccer game in Blaine, Minn., in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Dr. Larson sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute in Edina and is co-director of orthopedics at the University of Minnestoa Medical Center, Fairview, in Minneapolis. He serves as Director of Education for the Minnesota Sports Medicine and is Medical Director and Team Physician for Augsburg College, a team physician for the Minnesota State High School League and numerous other schools that include Edina and Eastview high schools. He provides medical coverage for many community sports events, including the U.S.A. Cup Soccer tournaments.

His special orthopaedic interests include knee conditions and he is a published author in numerous peer-reviewed journals on such topics as total joint arthroplasty, orthopaedic basic science and pediatric orthopaedics. Current research interests include knee surgery and agility, hip arthroscopy outcomes and efficacy of allograft

Greg Lervick, MD  (Full Bio)
Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Greg Lervick, M.D., earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa City, in 1996, and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the same in 2001. His advanced training includes an orthopaedic fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, New York, in 2002.

Dr. Lervick is the team physician for Augsburg College and Lakeville South High School. He also provides coverage for Minnesota State High School League tournaments.

He provides non-surgical and surgical treatment for the full spectrum of orthopaedic shoulder and elbow conditions, including shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability repair, shoulder and elbow replacement, and repair of shoulder and elbow fractures. Dr. Lervick brings a strong commitment to research and education to Minnesota Sports Medicine (MSM). He serves as faculty for MSM’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and frequently lectures locally, regionally and nationally on a variety of shoulder and elbow topics. His current research includes outcome studies of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, traumatic shoulder instability, total shoulder replacement, reverse total shoulder replacement, and elbow tendon disorders.

He is a member of the Minnesota Orthopaedic Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Lervick sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute in Edina, Eden Prairie and Minneapolis. He is on the medical staff of Fairview Southdale Hospital and the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.

J. Patrick Smith, MD  (Full Bio) - Fellowship Program Director
Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon J. Patrick Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Minnesota. Since that time he has specialized in sports medicine and adult reconstructive surgery, particularly of the knee. He is an active member of the AAOSM.

He sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute in Edina. He serves as orthopaedic team physician for the University of Minnesota Gopher Football and Wrestling programs and as team physician and Medical Director for Hamline University Department of Athletics. His wide-ranging community sports medicine experience includes providing physician coverage for such events as the NCAA-Final Four, NCAA Sub-Regional/Regionals, Team USA Canadian Cup and the Walker Cup.

Brad Moser, MD  (Full Bio)
Board-certified primary care sports medicine physician Brad R. Moser completed his undergraduate degree in pharmacology-toxicology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy in 1994 and earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in 2000. He has completed his certification of added qualifications (CAQ) in sports medicine.

Following, he completed his residency in family medicine and community medicine at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., and a sports medicine fellowship at Minneapolis-based Hennepin County Medical Center. This nationally recognized fellowship offered opportunities to care for athletes of all ages and abilities, from recreational to elite, addressing wide-ranging health concerns including musculoskeletal injuries and conditions impacting performance such as concussions, asthma, skin conditions and nutritional imbalances.

As a specialist in sports medicine, Dr. Moser sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute in Edina. In addition to providing medical and orthopaedic care to athletes of all ages, he conducts pre-participation exams and creates exercise and rehabilitation prescriptions.

Dr. Moser currently serves as the Co-Medical Director of the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in the Twin Cities. He serves as team physician to the United States National Soccer Teams, currently the U23 Women’s National Team. He is the founder and director of Minnesota Dance Medicine, an organization dedicated to promoting research and education in dance medicine. He also provides medical coverage for local high school teams, Minnesota State High School League tournaments and annually at events such as the Twin Cities and Chicago marathons.

Dr. Moser is an avid soccer player and continues to serve annually on the medical staff at the USA Cup International Soccer Tournament.

Dr. Moser is an Adjunct Professor for the University of Minnesota Department of Family and Community Medicine; Clinical Instructor for the Minnesota Sports Medicine Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical School.

Corey Wulf, MD  (Full Bio)
Corey Wulf, MD specializes in sports medicine, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, cartilage transplant and general orthopedics. Dr. Wulf graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Mayo School of Medicine. Dr. Wulf completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute in 2009.
